Pictured here in his younger years, W. Bro Peter Tyler has led a remarkable life, both in service to his country and in dedication to Freemasonry. Now 83 years old, he is a senior member of St George Abadan Lodge, though he finds it increasingly difficult to attend meetings regularly. Nevertheless, his longstanding membership and contributions are greatly valued and celebrated.

Peter’s journey began with his service in the Royal Artillery as Gunner Peter Tyler, . At the age of 19, he embarked on the Empire Pride troop ship from Liverpool, enduring a five-week voyage to Hong Kong, sleeping in a hammock along the way. His service took him to Sri Lanka (then Ceylon) at 19, Hong Kong at 20, and finally back to the UK at 21.

Pictured alongside him is the Bedford QL lorry, a crucial vehicle used to tow generators for radar operations—a testament to the vital work carried out by Peter and his comrades.

Though time and distance may limit his attendance, W. Bro Peter Tyler’s presence in our Lodge remains ever significant. We honour his service, both in uniform and in Freemasonry, with gratitude and admiration.
