St George Abadan Lodge No. 6058 (Chatham) has, in recent years, forged a warm and enduring connection with the Brethren and friends of Weymouth and Portland. Each July, members of the Lodge’s Brothers of the Ashlar group make their now-traditional journey to LearningStone.org at the Old Drill Hall, where they spend time reconnecting with the operative roots of Freemasonry. The visit is carefully planned to coincide with the regular meeting of All Souls Lodge No. 170, which meets in the heart of Weymouth, adding a splendid fraternal dimension to the trip.

Last night, I had the absolute pleasure of attending the Master’s Partner’s Night, a wonderfully warm and convivial occasion that truly reflected the spirit of friendship our Lodges share. Since our last visit in July, our Worshipful Master, Tony Jacobs, has been hard at work. With extraordinary care and creativity, he has designed, crafted, and personally funded a set of unique firing mauls for presentation as tokens of esteem.

It was a privilege to present these on Tony’s behalf—one to W.M. Alan Ward of All Souls Lodge during the evening’s festivities, and others at the Old Drill Hall to Hannah, the Artistic Director, and Paul (pictured above), their exceptionally skilled Technical Instructor.

A special mention must be made of Paul’s remarkable craftsmanship. Standing proudly beside an exquisite example of his work with mallet and chisel, he demonstrated the precision and artistry that continue to inspire our Brothers each time we visit LearningStone.

These shared experiences—rooted in tradition, fraternity, and the beauty of operative craft—continue to strengthen the bond between our Lodges. We look forward to many more visits, friendships renewed, and stones shaped together in the years ahead.
