On 8th November 2025, our IPM, WBro Robyn Murdo Smith travelled down to Dorset to attend the Ladies Night of All Souls Lodge No. 170, Province of Dorset. This festive gathering has become a particularly special occasion for us, not least because of our ongoing friendship with the Brethren of All Souls. Each summer, our “Brothers of the Ashlar” group visits learningstone.org at the Old Drill Hall to reconnect with the operative roots of our Craft, and the bonds formed during those weekends make events like this feel almost like returning to family.
This year’s Ladies Night was held as a Masked Ball, and it did not disappoint. The hall was filled with elegance, colour, and creativity — though none more creative than WBro Robyn, whose mask became something of a talking point throughout the evening. In true Robyn fashion, he harvested the moulted fur of his ginger cat (fresh from its grooming!) and applied it to a moulded cardboard mask. The result had everyone in stitches and set the tone for a night full of humour and good cheer.
WBro Robyn didn’t stop there. Ever the entertainer, he could be found handing out small gifts to the Ladies — but, so as not to frighten anyone, he chose sugar mice rather than anything more feline! He was also heard mischievously asking guests if they knew where the “litter trays” were. His sense of humour, as always, added something quite unique to the evening.
Beyond the enjoyment and spectacle, the night also carried an important charitable purpose. By the close of the evening, the Master of All Souls Lodge had raised an impressive £880 for a deeply meaningful local cause: providing mental health counsellors in local schools, following the tragic loss of two young men from Portland earlier this year.
However, in true Robyn style — full of bravado, heart, and joyful persuasion — he took to the microphone, worked his magic, and within moments helped lift the total to a remarkable £1,100. His enthusiasm and generosity were warmly received, and the impact of that additional support will undoubtedly be felt by the young people who benefit from it.
The Brethren of St George Abadan were honoured to be part of such a memorable event, strengthening our connection with All Souls Lodge and sharing in an evening that celebrated charity, companionship, and the lighter side of Masonry.
We look forward to welcoming our Dorset friends when they next travel east — and, of course, to returning to the Old Drill Hall for our annual stone-masonry visit.
A wonderful night, wonderful company, and wonderful cause.
