On the evening of Wednesday, 23 October, just before our Lodge of Instruction (LOI), our Master and Senior Warden embarked on a local outreach. They strolled through the neighbourhood surrounding the Masonic Hall on Manor Road, determined to introduce our Lodge to the people living and working nearby. Armed with a friendly approach and a handful of business cards, they knocked on twelve doors, meeting local residents and sharing a little insight into who we are as Freemasons.
The message was kept simple and reassuring:
“Good evening, sorry to bother you. We are Freemasons, and we meet at the Masonic Hall in Manor Road—you may have passed by it. We gather, conduct ceremonies, and raise funds within our membership, and then distribute those funds to local good causes. Don’t worry; we aren’t asking you for anything. Thank you for listening, and have a good evening.”
The response was both polite and positive. There were no harsh words, no misunderstandings, and certainly no buckets of cold water thrown in their direction! Instead, most people seemed genuinely interested, and a few even displayed curiosity about what we do.
This visit was just the first step in our ongoing efforts to connect with our local community, both residential and commercial. We hope to build a friendly rapport, dispel any misconceptions, and help people understand how we quietly contribute to our neighbourhood. As Freemasons, we’re here to be a positive part of the area, dedicated to charity and fellowship.
Here’s to more fruitful exchanges in the future!
